The puppet is first mentioned in the KOLK17 archive in 1989. The only notes about the object's origin are ‘Konietzko’ and ‘Hamburg’. Does this refer to Julius Konietzko (1886-1952), who ‘collected’ during the colonial era? Or his son, the antique dealer Boris Kegel-Konietzko? These are just two of many questions about the provenance and history of this object.
