Stefan Fichert combines painting with cinematic art and puppet theatre. He drew the sequence of scenes from Gogol's absurd story like a silent film script with text panels, ideas for revolving stages, and scenic and choreographic instructions. He carefully worked out the puppets and stage sets through this approach.
